artists' statement

Plexus: an interwoven combination of parts or elements in a structure or system

I often go in search of a single word or phrase that best describes my intent as an artist at a given point in time and build on that the principle concept for a series of works. Recently I've been looking at a lot of my older work and from this retrospection the need has arisen to combine all the elements and visual vocabulary that I've been experimenting with, over the last few years into a more definitive personal "style." The idea so to use all the weird little things that have popped-up during the Disintegration series through to the Anomaly series.

There are many elements and technical approaches that has come and gone in my work over the last 5 years, essentially things that happened by accident, that I would like to retain in my work going forward.

This piece is part of a series of works where I will attempt to amalgamate all the different approaches to image making and painting itself that I've explored over the last few years. The series will eventually culminate in a large solo show NEXUS scheduled for March 2019 at State of the ART in Cape Town.
